The Bank of Japan has launched the second phase of its CBDC experiment

On April 15, the Bank of Japan announced that it has launched the second phase of the central bank digital currency (CBDC) empirical experiment. Bank of Japan director Shinichi Uchida reiterated that no decision has yet been made on whether to issue a CBDC in Japan. It has also previously stated that the Bank of Japan will not introduce a digital yen as a means to achieve negative interest rates.
